His Joy

Joyfulness is essential in bearing all of life’s burdens.  Without joy, we are held captive by the trying circumstances and situations that come with life. Having joy in all circumstances proves challenging for anyone especially when we focus on external variables affecting our day to day life. Now don’t confuse joy and happiness. Joy is not external nor is it affected by the external.  It does not change with our present climate, altitude or our mood. Joy is internal and it comes from within our hearts, where God resides.

“The joy of the Lord is my strength and my shield.” Psalm 28:7

Having the joy of God in your life is in your favor. When you have the joy of the Lord you are not easy moved by unfavorable situations, criticism, disappointment, or even failures. Sounds great and all but how do we really I attain such joy? I’ve titled this post “His Joy” meaning God literally possesses it . He is our source of all good things including joy. We must somehow tap into that joy. The good news is that God offers us His joy freely and the best way to tap in to that joy is to abide in Him.

In John 15:4-5 Jesus says, “Remain in me as also I remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you; you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

It is impossible to have such joy in all situations without God. We need His joy. We need Him.

Surrender…

To remain or abide in God, we must first surrender to Him. We must acknowledge His sovereignty and Lordship over our lives and invite Him in to our hearts.

Trust…

We must also have faith and believe in God’s Word and His promises. God is faithful and all that He has promised will come to pass. Remember faith does not come with seeing. In believing His Word we will find comfort. Ever read the Bible and it completely changed your mood in a positive way? That’s because God’s Word is living, active and always relevant.

Do not worry…

We should not fear or fret in a world that God has already overcome. One of my favorite scriptures is Mathew 6:25-27. It reads, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

In all honestly worrying adds nothing good to your life but takes away from it. It steals joy. Worry and joy cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The same goes with fear and faith…I think you get the picture.

I’d like to encourage you today by telling you that there is no shortage of joy with God because there is no limit to God. Yes, God is limitless. His joy can reach the darkest of places that we never thought it would be able to reach. In fact, there is nothing you are facing that our limitless God cannot invade…

Whenever you find yourself in a tough spot don’t forget to look up. The joy of the Lord is truly your strength.

With love,

Faith ‘Biela
